In 2018, Rabbi Clifford Librach—who died yesterday after many years in the rabbinate—came to the Tikvah podcast to speak about an article he had written lamenting what Reform Judaism had lost by not putting sufficient emphasis on the Jewish idea of peoplehood. Rabbi Librach embarked on a career in the law as a young man, before attending rabbinical school; he also wrote extensively on the current state of American Judaism in Commentary and other publications, and was one of the Reform movement’s most compelling thinkers.
